Melody's Story

 

“Quitting wasn’t easy but I found that the more I tried the further I got. Don’t give up because each attempt is another step in the right direction.”

Melody smoked about 5 cigarettes a day for around ten years. For a long time she had felt that only smoking a few a day wasn’t a problem. She didn’t think that she would have any trouble quitting because she could go hours without a cigarette without any problems. But when her doctor told her she had developed asthma she knew she wanted to quit. She made a cold turkey attempt but was only able to make it two days before she would slip because she felt really emotional. After that she couldn’t find the courage to quit until she met her soon to be husband. She felt inspired to quit because she wanted to be healthy and happy for their marriage. She made several more attempts to quit and was finally able to quit cold turkey with her fiancés support and always reminding herself of the positive aspects of it. She found that chewing gum and doing crossword puzzles would keep her distracted long enough for her cravings to pass. Now, she hasn’t smoked in four months and is starting to feel better about it every day.
